65: “Eating Crow”

It is never easy to eat crow. It is one of the most unpalatable meals imaginable. But where would we be if it were never done? There would be no integrity, of course. Soooo...

When a man looks you in the eye and says to you, “Of course the casino is wrong for our area, it’s a ridiculous idea,” you should be able to take him at his word. At the time he may have meant it. He still may on a personal level. But when money talks, candidates listen.

Alan Henry has bought in to the lies put out by the Chance Enterprises people, claiming that Straban Township would get $16 million, and there would be 3,000 jobs for the area. Or sold out to them. Either way, he completely backs the casino in Gettysburg as a good thing. Never mind how we explained the facts to him, never mind how we have exposed all of Chance Enterprises lies repeatedly here. All one needs to do is the math. The money won’t be there, the jobs may be there, but the employees will not be.

One can only guess for now about the size of the campaign contribution. $5,000? Maybe $10,000. David LeVan wants desperately to see Maitland defeated. [So do I.]

"First we need to bring integrity back to the state house, there's a total lack of that going on up there.” Those are Alan Henry’s words. You can see them on his
website. So, here we have someone campaigning to “bring integrity back to the state house…” while touting the benefits of an industry that has bought that statehouse lock, stock, and barrel.

Could have fooled me. Did fool me. There, I swallowed that crow. My apologies to my readers, I used poor judgement. We hereby rescind our endorsement of Alan Henry. It is unfortunate that he is running as a Clean Sweep candidate, as his election would seem to us as being “business as usual”.

Now we have a week to find an acceptable candidate to run against Steve Maitland. Will anyone step up to the bar?
