63: “For Our Readers Around the State”

This information is just in from Operation Clean Sweep. Look for more from them, and other sources as we enter the final week before the Primary Election.

PACleanSweep Approves 4 More Candidates
while 5 PACleanSweepers receive newspaper endorsements
ANNVILLE, PA [05.08.06] - PACleanSweep has added four new names to its growing list of approved candidates. The total number of PACleanSweep-approved candidates now stands at 112, with 61 directly challenging for a seat from within their incumbent's party.

All four candidates are vying for a seat in the House of Representatives. They are:
Janet Evans (D-113)

Dan Holt (D-106)

Matthew Mann (I-95)

Paul Stebbins, Jr. (R-120)

Holt is waging a write-in campaign and joins fellow PACleanSweeper and Republican candidate Jonathan Keeler in the effort to unseat incumbent John Payne in the 106th district via a write-in vote. Keeler was recently removed from the ballot by the Supreme Court on a technicality. Curiously, Senator Vince Fumo and Representatives Kerry Benninghoff and Will Gabig were allowed to remain on the ballot despite similar technical filing flaws in 2004.

Meanwhile, five PACleanSweep candidates to date have received endorsements from prominent newspapers in their respective regions. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has recommended that voters give Dan Cindric (D-27), Lisa Bennington (D- 21) and Mark Purcell (D-20) victories in their primary races, while the Allentown Morning Call has chosen John Wieczorek (D-122) and the Washington Observer-Reporter has selected Jesse White (D-46).

White is challenging for an open seat, while the other four were selected over incumbents.

As you know, Operation Clean Sweep is backing these Citizen-Patriot Heroes who have volunteered to take on the daunting challenge of trying to unseat the incumbents running for the General Assembly.

As you can see by the mention of the decision by the judge in the Keeler case, the deck is stacked against them all. Not only must they face (in nearly all cases) party endorsed candidates with lots of campaign money to spend, but the least opening spotted by an incumbent is enough to bring on undue judicial pressure. Lest you forget, the judges of the state, all the way down to the local magistrates and District Justices have a stake in this election. They are fighting to keep their share of the Midnight Pay Raise unconstitutionally passed by the General Assembly last July, immediately signed into law by Governor Rendell, and repealed by the General Assembly last fall.

It is going to take money and many, many volunteers to help these folks win their elections.

Former Chairman of Operation Clean Sweep, and now an Independent candidate for governor on his own hook, Russ Diamond is hitting the campaign trail. Here is his tentative schedule for the next week:

Turning out the ridiculously arrogant and unworthy incumbents in the state legislature is only half the battle. We must not only turn out Ed Rendell, who is soaked in gambling money, from the Governor’s Mansion, we must see to it that Lynn Swann, who is also being kept afloat by gambling money [and spent last weekend at the Kentucky Derby trying to pry more out of them] is not the next occupant.

Thus, it is important to back and vote for a principled man like Russ Diamond. The new Clean Sweep legislators who take office next January are going to need a friend in the governor’s mansion. And conversely, Russ Diamond will need some friends in the General Assembly. If we are to do this job right, and take a giant step toward reclaiming Pennsylvania’s government from the corrupt, monied interests, we must start with electing these Citizen-Patriot Heroes to office in a fashion where they will not be marginalized by the monied interests.

The first step in the process is to spread the word. Tell your friends, your adult children (if any), your parents, your brothers and sisters. Give them the link to this blog and tell them to explore it, and learn about what is going on in state government. Tell them to spread the word and pass the link on.

Then pick a candidate from Operation Clean Sweep to back. Check the list on their website. Send them money. Send Operation Clean Sweep money. Doesn’t have to be much, $10, $20, whatever you can afford. Contact the candidate and see how you can help them. They need volunteers to stuff envelopes, put up posters, man telephones, and email accounts, and go door to door for them. They cannot do it by themselves. Contact Russ Diamond’s campaign, and do the same for them. Send what you can afford. Help them all you can. Go to the rallies.

National pundits are talking about an anti-incumbent movement sweeping the country, in time for the Federal Congressional Elections in November (when we will be taking our state government back from the hands of the monied interests.) The problem exists on all levels of government.

Let’s show them the way it is done. Forget about political parties. Forget about partisan politics, for that is politics as usual. This is too important. Dare! Take a chance. Act in the revolutionary spirit of our forefathers who threw off the yoke of the British Crown. Seize back Liberty from the brink of extinction. Make Pennsylvania the model, and not the laughingstock.
