"Although the President's decision to make a commitment to the war in Afghanistan took far too long, I believe that he made the right call. In fact, I thought it was the right decision back in September when General McChrystal requested more troops and resources to achieve victory. The only thing the President's months of indecision did was erode the public’s support for our important mission there.
"Even last night, the President continued to send mixed signals regarding this war. The President announced that we were increasing troop levels and resources to win this critical war, and then simultaneously discussed an exit strategy. These mixed signals undermine the ability of our troops to succeed before their boots even hit the ground. Telegraphing our movements to our enemies is never a good strategy and the President still needs to convince our troops, allies and even our enemies that he is serious about winning this war.
"Looking for reaction from Pennsylvania's U.S. Senators, I found it shocking that Senator Arlen Specter has chosen to further his run to the far left of the Democratic Party by stating his opposition to the President's plan to increase troop levels and resources in Afghanistan. Senator Specter continues to prove that he will do and say anything to get elected."
