Newspaper: The real failures of lawmakers

While the Pennsylvania Legislature took action Tuesday to pay 77,000 state workers who faced several weeks of "payless paydays" due to the state's five-week-old budget impasse, the real failures of the Legislature were evident this week.

From an editorial in The Pottstown Mercury:
The lawmakers "budget" passed Tuesday as a stopgap measure evades the real problem of their inability to collaborate on crafting a realistic plan for this commonwealth.

The fiasco that this budget process has become has already harmed the credibility and effectiveness of every aspect of government-run operations within Pennsylvania.

The lawmakers of Harrisburg don't deserve praise for this stopgap budget; they deserve to be fired for creating a situation that required it in the first place.
